Naples man to 35 years in prison in connection with 2004 stabbing death
A judge today sentenced an East Naples man to 35 years in prison in connection with the 2004 stabbing death of a just graduated Naples High School student.
Sheddrick Bentley pleaded no contest to a charge of second degree murder during a hearing this morning at which his attorneys had originally planned to ask the judge to suppress his confession that he stabbed 18 year old Cory Brightman and then dumped Brightman’s body in a Dumpster behind an East Naples shopping plaza in 2004,

Bentley entered his plea rather than stand trial next week. Circuit Judge Elizabeth V. Krier then sentenced him to 35 years in state prison,
carda against humanity, with credit for the two years he already served in the county jail. Had he went to trial and been convicted of second degree murder, he could have faced a possible life prison sentence. Bentley had pleaded innocent to the charge.
Bentley was charged with stabbing Brightman and stealing his truck,
