Odessa funicular is one of numerous attractions in Odessa, Ukraine. It can be called a true veteran of the city, since it is over one hundred and ten years old. Lifting machine, as the funicular was called then, was one of the first in the Russian Empire. Two cars, which connected the upper part of the city and the port, could accommodate 35 people. They worked on the “classic” pendulum scheme: one car drove down, while the second upwards. The funicular worked for almost 70 years, and then it was decided to replace the cable car with the escalator. But it didn’t work long. In 1997 its operation was stopped, and only in 2005 for the City Day a new modern funicular was opened. So come and check it while staying at your hotel in Odessa.
