Now, let me tell you a tiny bit about what it felt like when I arrived in Odessa. Although I had reserved a spacious and cozy room at one of the most renowned Odessa hotels – the
Eleganza Hotel, located near Odessa’s most renowned streets – Deribasovskaya Street – both accommodation services and mod cons were but the last things I could think about at the moment. Neither did I care much about where to
rent an apartment in Odessa. There would be no TV news in my room that day because bad news was not for this city. What I wanted now, on the eve of the funniest day of the year, was a little look around the city’s architecture and maybe a little talk with an Odessit and a little lesson on the famous local language. Although I failed to make myself look smart enough to make people around me want to chat with me, I knew that a city with street names like Deribasovskaya, Rishelievskaya, Moldavanka, Preobrazhenskaya was big fun in itself.
