Boffo’s miracles in Odessa Ukraine

Designed by F. Boffo in 1825, it was built in 1837-1841 and used to have 200 steps and its bottom used to be be washed by the sea. However, bank reinforcement resulted in the removal of 8 steps, so today there are only 192 steps. Later I read that the stairway was initially built from green-gray sandstone brought from Trieste. However, the stone lost its strength and was replaced with granite in 1933… The whole thing made me forget that I was staying at the Eleganza Hotel – one of the newest and most beautiful ones in Odessa. Also, I was dying to rent an apartment in Odessa, because the city’s beauty made me want to stay there for at least a couple of months… Would that be enough for me to learn at least one hundredth of Odessa???
