Odessa is full of bars, clubs and restaurants with cuisine from all around the world. But there is one special place where you can try so many tasty and unusual things, served in the very original style. This is the place with homey atmosphere— restaurant “Kompot”, named in the honour of refreshing traditional drink of fruits boiled in water. Kompot, made from cherry, blackcurrant and other berries, is served the way an Odessite granny would bring it to her family — in a litre glass jar with a metal lid, which the waiter opens right in front of you to ladle the drink into the ”granyonka” (faceted tumblers). There are many special things in the menu and interior that will make you love this place —from traditional cuisine to interior, decked out in full ethnic kitsch. You can use a Soviet-era telephone, visit a toilet that looks like a granny’s pantry or just enjoy a sunny morning with cup of coffee and a croissant, baked right here.
Just don’t forget to take a can of kompot with you— that will be unusal little present from Ukrainian granny.
There are also many apartments in Odessa, located not far from this restaurant, on the legendary Deribasovskaya Street. T
